A final assessment of progress made in walking programs during the last six months will be the focus on Sat., Nov. 5, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Columbus Health Department, 240 Parsons Avenue.
For those who want to learn about losing weight and who recognize the importance of feeling better through exercise, Dale Gresson, an instructor at Fitness Boot Camp of Columbus, will get attendees involved with cardio kickboxing.
Pat Funderburg, a dance and exercise instructor, will get participants on their feet for exercises that are designed to improve fitness and reduce obesity.
Healthy meal planning, the other important component of a lifestyle that combats obesity, will be covered by Natalie Dennison, R.D., a registered dietician from The Ohio State University Hospital Medical Center.
“It is important for people living with diabetes to take control of their health,” Gailmarie Harris, a project coordinator stated. “Diabetes can be managed and prevented. Establishing a walking club in your neighborhood will reduce the high incidence of diabetes in our city. It is critically important to remain active and to continue walking, as well as to try alternative forms of exercising during the upcoming winter months.”
Recognition will be given to outstanding walking clubs within the community and people who achieved milestones at local Recreation & Park facilities’ walking paths.
The walking club that has gained the most registered members will receive an on-site health fair in their community.
