What does the college experience hold? – A world of opportunities in an academic setting. Giorgio McBeath, a freshman pharmaceutical science major at The Ohio State University, chose to pursue pharmacy because it is more social and patient-oriented.
“My father is a chemical engineer and I’ve always had an interest in chemistry and science. Ohio State offered a better program for less and it is close to my home, Cleveland,” said McBeath.
The education required to become a pharmacist includes six to eight years or more of university training. “I feel like I belong here. It’s a long road ahead of me, but I will be fine,” said McBeath.
Ryan Kent, a Young Scholars scholarship recipient from Youngstown, Ohio, is pursuing Industrial and Systems Engineering, which deals with increasing the efficiency of businesses.
“I like calculus and engineering classes,” he explained. “It’s challenging but anything worth having is worth working for.”
A reception for African American high school seniors from the Central Ohio area and their parents was held on Nov. 30.
“We hope that we will gain a lot of enthusiasm from African American students to come to Ohio State. We really want them to be here,” said Karen Holbrook, the president of The Ohio State University.
