In spite of sexual molestation accusations, the congregation of New Generation Church is standing firmly behind their pastor. Church members gave Rev. Maurice Jackson an enthusiastic welcome back after he had been released from the Franklin County jail last week.
"I declared to you last week that our pastor would be back and stand among us this week," New Generation’s assistant pastor Richard Hannah told the cheering congregation before Jackson ran up and joined him in the pulpit for Sunday morning service.
Jackson was arrested last month on charges of molesting a minor.
A former member of New Generation Church said that her 15-year-old daughter was sexually abused by Jackson during a four-year period beginning when the girl was seven-years-old. The incidents allegedly took place at the home of a mutual friend.
The girl also accused Jackson of threatening to kill her mother if she told anyone.
The mother also alleged that Jackson acted sexually inappropriate with her.
The 34-year-old pastor was charged with two counts of gross sexual imposition (a felony), sexual imposition, and corrupting a minor.
