Newcomer Lori Tyack made history when she beat incumbent Mike Pirik by reversing 81 years of Republican rule in the Clerk of Courts office. With a 59-40 percent margin, Tyack says that her win sets precedent not only within the Clerk of Courts office, but for Democrats statewide.
“This is the beginning of change in power in the state of Ohio,” said Tyack, who is a paralegal and office manager for her husband’s law firm. She was also a Common Pleas Court bailiff from 2000 to 2002. “We’ve never come together like this before and it’s a great win for all of us. I think we’re going to look back at this year as a time that has changed the state.”
Bill Anthony, chairman of the Franklin County Democratic Party, shared in Tyack’s enthusiasm saying that voters saw through negative campaigning by Pirik.
“Lori ran on what to do to make a change; she offered customer service changes and that connected with the taxpayers,” he told the Columbus Post.
Four of the 14 municipal seats were up for grabs and incumbents won three out of four positions.
