Thornton to lead Ohio newspaper group

Herman (Ray) Thornton has been named director of operations for Freedom Media Group of Ohio, Inc. The Ohio group operates the Columbus Post, Union County Messenger and Urban Edition newspapers.
Thornton, whose new duties took effect on November 1, was previously manager of production and information systems for the Columbus Post. In his new role “he will direct the day-to-day operations of all three Ohio newspapers,” said Alan W. Sorter, president & CEO of Freedom Media Group, Inc., parent company of the Columbus Post and its sister newspapers.
In his production capacity, Thornton established the operation templates for the 1995 launch of the Columbus Post and has led the paper’s graphics department.
“Ray has demonstrated his commitment to the company and its mission since we purchased the Columbus Post in July 2003,” Sorter said. “He is the type of leader we need in the Ohio market."
